Need urgent help?

If you or someone you know needs urgent medical care or mental health support but it’s not life-threatening, call 111.

Support offered:

  1. Medical support
  • Call 111 if you, or someone you know, needs urgent medical support but it’s not life-threatening.
  • You’ll speak to a trained adviser who will ask questions to understand your needs and direct you to the right support.

2. Mental health support

  • If you’re feeling unsafe, distressed or worried about your mental health, call 111 and choose the mental health option.
  • The phone will be answered by a call handler with mental health training who will be able to listen to your concerns and help you get the support you need. With your permission, they can also access your electronic patient records to better meet your needs and to avoid you repeatedly having to tell us your situation.
  • They can offer advice over the phone, put you in contact with crisis services or refer you to the urgent crisis team who will, where appropriate, arrange a crisis assessment and intervention after no more than 72 hours.

If you have a hearing problem or need help in another language, there are different ways to contact NHS 111:

  • Text relay: Call 18001 111 using the Relay UK app or a textphone (available 24 hours a day). Visit the Relay UK website to find out more
  • British Sign Language (BSL): Use the SignVideo NHS 111 service to connect with a BSL interpreter
  • Other languages: Call 111 and ask for an interpreter
